Homework

Tomorrow is the beginning of "Turn off the TV" week at R's school. A and I decided that if we're going to support R, we need to participate, too. For each day that R doesn't watch any TV or use the computer or play video games, we fill out a coupon and send it to school. If the whole school earns 1,000 coupons, then the school gets a big surprise prize. Fun!

I'm excited to see what things I do instead of watching TV. I'm guessing I'll do a lot of reading and that I'll get to bed much earlier. But I'm hoping to play the piano and do some painting, too. We'll see!

Sweetheart,
if you are really serious about this, I think that you need to put the television in the cellar. That way, if you weaken, you and Alan can sneak down after Rix is asleep. If he were to hear it on in the living room, he might come downstairs with the wrath of a boy betrayed written all over his brow.
I applaud your resolve. Break out the jig saw puzzles, warm up the cookie press, and best of luck to you all. Beware of the neighbors. Do you remember Mrs. Bayliss and the Wizard of Oz?
This is not the best time to try to break the habit. The World Series is coming,

Oh no, Dad, having the TV in the living room and in earshot of R's room is part of what will keep us from turning it on!

And, who cares about the World Series without the Red Sox? ;-)

Sweetheart,
the most memorable thing that I ever saw in a World Series was when Kirk Gibson hobbled to the plate and then blasted a home run. LaSorda said that Gibson had said "I'm ready." and when that guy says he's ready, he's ready.
Even if the Red Sox aren't in the World Series, and there were times when they weren't, it is still the World Series,
